“The Struggling Can’t Help the Struggling” - Sarah C

My artwork “The Struggling Can’t Help the Struggling” displays how the Phillipines has an alarming high number of stray animals in their city streets. This is a problem because due to the high poverty rates there, many Filipinos don’t have adequate money to care for the animals, and barely even themselves. This leads to them being let go to wander into the streets. The dogs and cats in my art piece are supposed to look malnourished and are shown begging for food. The human silhouettes are seen ignoring the animals because it is so normalized to leave them on the streets. Last year when I visited the Philippines, I saw countless animals who were not in a well state.
